Please do not republish full > articles or trackers verbatim without permission. > dateUpdated: 2026-09-10 ## How to read our figures - Country figures are **current-year nominal USD** at market exchange rates unless the page says otherwise. Real-terms changes are labelled "real terms" inline. - Where SIPRI and a national official budget diverge we publish **both** and explain the gap on the page. SIPRI typically adds paramilitary forces, military R&D, arms imports and military pensions that national headline budgets exclude. - NATO burden-sharing percentages use **NATO's own** defense-expenditure definition, which differs from SIPRI's. The two are never mixed inside one figure. - Per-capita figures divide the spending estimate by mid-year population; the population source is named on each page. - Contested figures are published as a low–high range with a confidence flag, never averaged into a single number.
